Dr. Johnny Alvarado
Dr. Johnny Alvarado is a lifelong resident of Fresno County, where he has lived for 60 years. Born in 1966 to Alvaro Alvarado Jr. and Mary Alvarado, he was raised in Sanger, California. He is the oldest of six children and all serve or have served in the educational system. He and his wife of 35 years, Elly Alvarado, became high school sweethearts in 1983 and are now parents to three amazing daughters: Audree Ana Alvarado/Crowe (Nurse Practitioner in Fresno), Brooklyn Alvarado/Wagner (Nurse in Denver, Colorado), and Nina Alvarado (Attorney in Fresno).
Beyond his career, Dr. Johnny Alvarado’s journey in life is well representative of being Fresno County! Raised in Fresno County Schools, he is a 1984 graduate of Sanger High School, 1986 Reedley Community College transfer student, and three-time California State University, Fresno graduate, with a BS degree in Business Administration – Accountancy (1991), and a Masters Degree (2001) and Doctorate Degree (2010) in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Johnny Alvarado worked in the Central Valley agriculture fields, operated his own yard care business, served at local restaurants, worked early mornings for UPS, tutored math at Reedley College and Fresno State, all while attending and completing college. In these roles, he gained valuable experience in business management and educational systems, which he will bring to
the role of Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. Johnny has served, and continues to serve, students, staff, and communities in Fresno County School Districts since 1995.
By running for the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools position, Dr. Johnny Alvarado believes the students, staff, and community of Fresno County deserve a leader who will stand up for all families, fight every day for students, and lead an organization with a vision for academically successful schools, safer school environments, and increased parent engagement/influence. He is committed to ensuring that all students in Fresno County will thrive for generations to come.
